20th Evening of Fine Music

The Evening of Fine Music, now in its 20th year, was a night of celebration, a milestone event marking two decades of extraordinary performances, and the profound impact of music education on our students. In her opening address, Mrs Nicole Finch, Head of Junior School, who has overseen each annual event, acknowledged Mr Honor’s vision and support, ensuring that the Evening of Fine Music is an annual fixture in the School’s calendar and a highlight of the year.

The Stage Band opened the night featuring eleven performers and two vocalists. They were followed by extraordinary solo performances in flute, piano, trumpet, clarinet, euphonium and voice. The duets and trio performances were also incredibly strong, and it touched our hearts to see so many accomplished performers, and the potential of our younger students.

Our Year 12 students gave masterful performances of their chosen musical instrument.  Now in their final year of schooling, Evening of Fine Music is a fitting occasion to celebrate their accomplishments as they perform one last time for SGCS.

The String Ensemble showcased their versatility playing a range of musical genres, including a polka and a tender rendition of Finlandia by Jean Sibelius.  The Wind Ensemble was also a highlight. The many hours required in individual and group practice to play to such a high professional standard was plainly evident.

The Concert Band showcased our younger students. It was endearing to see these students play with such determination and enthusiasm. Who knew that a whistle could play such an important role in a big band?

Students in Year 4 and Year 5 gave an uplifting and energetic performance from the upcoming Junior School production of Peter Pan Jr.

The evening closed with the Junior School Choir singing an uplifting song, Lovely Day. All those lovely smiling faces of our Junior School students, singing their little hearts out, was a beautiful way to send the audience out into the night.  It truly was an evening of fine music.
