Congratulations to Jesaiah Creek in Year 11 who has been awarded a WorldWide Developers Conference (WWDC) Student Scholarship for the second time. Apple’s annual Swift Student Challenge invites students to create an innovative coding project using the Swift Playgrounds app. Projects are judged based on technical accomplishment, creativity of ideas, and the content of the written responses that explain the project.
Out of thousands of entries from students from Year 7 to Ph.D. level, Jesaiah is in the top 350 students. To win this scholarship once is commendable, but to win it twice is quite extraordinary!
Jesaiah shared his journey with educators from across the State at the recent ICTENSW Conference. In his presentation, he described how he learnt to code, the way he approaches design, and how important accessible musical instruments are. Jesaiah’s reflections about the conference include:
‘A highlight was meeting John Gallaugher, a visiting professor from Boston College, USA. He has been working with UTS and also runs app development classes for the Apple Vision Pro. Hearing the way he teaches his students was inspiring, and I picked up some great tips to use when teaching programming. I’m excited to apply these to our school’s lunchtime iOS Development club!’
Jesaiah’s experience as a keynote speaker continues to grow. He will give a keynote presentation on 5 April with Apple Australia and MITIE, and has been invited to speak at an international Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies in the Philippines in August.
We are incredibly proud of Jesaiah and thankful for his generosity as he regularly gives back to the School by assisting with our Coding Club and sharing his knowledge with interested Middle School students during his break time.
