This week our Middle School Artist Excellence Group visited the Hazelhurst Arts Centre at Gymea to view the 2023 Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award. This biennial award is a significant national exhibition that aims to elevate the status of work on paper while supporting and promoting artists working with this medium. With prize money totalling $26,000, this year’s competition received entries from 890 artists from across Australia.
Our students had the opportunity to view 82 finalists’ works, which comprised of 2D and 3D paper works including drawing, printmaking, collage, photography, sculpture, paper cuts and video.
Afterwards the students visited the exhibition in the Broadhurst Gallery, which featured works from the Hazelhurst Drawing Class, including several works by their Coordinator, Mrs Melissa Honor. Upon their return to School they were delighted to view their own recently installed works in the Atrium Building.
