Celebrating Wonder

Infants students took us on a remarkable and joyful journey at their Christmas Concert last week. Parents and friends in the audience were immersed in a world full of wonder.

The journey to wonder began, as it so often does, in the Library, as the children opened books which led to some extraordinary adventures of discovery. Year 2 boys took us rocketing into space, brave astronauts in their white suits exploring the wonder of the sun and the stars. Kindergarten girls, adorned as beautiful flowers and butterflies, uncovered the secret life of plants, whilst Kindergarten boys unleashed the mighty world of ants. The audience learnt how something as small as an ant can have a big impact, and a delicate butterfly or flower can display exquisite beauty.

Year 1 dove into the mighty ocean with the girls elegantly dancing as fish with pastel swirls and sparkles, and the boys riding the waves of the unstoppable ocean, rising and falling, adorned in shades of blue. They reminded us to never underestimate the power and delight of the ocean.

The audience was entertained as the Year 2 girls danced up a storm as African animals, creating an amazing picture of God’s diverse creatures – from the long neck of the giraffe, to the floppy ears of the elephant and the magnificence of the lion.

The song, ‘Walking into Wonder’, captured the joy of the children as they recapped their exploration of our incredible world. The wonder of creation led us to the wonder of Christmas as everyone, including the audience, sang and danced to the moving song, ‘Praise the Lord!’ In a final scene filmed in the Library, the children pondered what the wise men and shepherds may have been thinking as they followed the bright star which led them to Jesus on that first Christmas night. One of the children responded by exclaiming, with a great sense of relief: ‘We don’t have to wonder who God is anymore.’

Thank you to Mrs Lean and her amazing team at Infants for bringing the concert together, the talented parents who created the beautiful costumes and assisted with the sets and, of course, the children for their incredible performances.

The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy.
