The SGCS Games – Paris 2024 comes to School

The Paris 2024 Olympics came back to life at SGCS during a jam-packed, French culture-filled lunchtime on Tuesday of Week 10. In the spirit of the revolutionary Paris 2024 Games, the ‘SGCS Games’ was the first time the Languages and PDHPE faculties have united to put on an event for our students at the Hurstville Campus.

We had over 60 very enthusiastic and excited students across the Middle School and Senior School compete in one of the three sports chosen for the Games. The United States played France in basketball and managed to uphold the US’ winning record. Italy conquered Brazil in volleyball and Germany rejoiced in their win over Spain. The winners enjoyed a freshly baked, chocolate-filled croissant from Café12 and everyone was able to rehydrate at our Prefect-run water station, decked out with red, white and blue cups.

Special mention goes to the Marching Band who performed ‘Mona Lisa’ as they paraded around the Campus for the Opening Ceremony. Our Paris 2024 mascot bearers also did a fabulous job stirring up cultural conversations with spectating staff and students. After all, how often do you see a revolutionary French Phrygian cap with eyes and limbs (or a prosthetic leg in the case of the Paralympic mascot)?
